That said, not every organization with a strong project focus needs or has a project management office (PMO). In a survey reported by PM Solutions, in 2000 only 47% of companies had a PMO. However, that number has been rising significantly and PM Solutions reported that by 2014, the percentage of companies with PMOs had grown to 80%. Clearly there is a trend as more organizations are recognizing that not only is project management needed, but a solid PM infrastructure – supported by a project management office – is probably the best way to consistently deliver success to your project customers. Remember, success isn’t a guarantee – some reports still say that projects fail to some degree more often than they succeed.
