Celoxis 5.0 – New Release of Web-Based PM Tool

If you haven’t already heard of Celoxis or tested out their project management software, you may want to take a look.  I've been familiarizing myself with their web-based PM tool and I've been pleased with the features and capabilities of the product.  I've found it to be a very feature-rich offering that allows considerable latitude in how you manage your projects and resources.  On top of that, they’ve just released their newest version – Celoxis 5.0 – offering new features that are designed to make the project management oversight effort more complete and easier than ever by incorporating some items that current users have been requesting.

Celoxis is a top-rated PC World reviewed web-based project management software that is both easy to master and detailed in its capabilities.  Along with great integrated tools to manage your resources, collaboration, time sheets, expenses and workflow, the software also offers an assortment of reporting capabilities including Gantt charts and the ability to export data to Excel for further reporting and data manipulation. Plus, you can either install Celoxis on your own servers or use their hosted service (Saas).

Celoxis allows users to create realistic project plans with powerful scheduling features like:
  • Unlimited task hierarchy
  • Dependencies with lead/lag
  • Constraints
  • Resource work calendars
  • Vacation/holiday scheduling
If you’re wondering if Celoxis plays well with Microsoft Project (since you’re going to manage projects where your clients have been using industry-standard and over-priced MS Project for years), the answer is…yes.   With Celoxis you can synchronize your project plans with Microsoft Project. Celoxis accommodates importing and exporting task hierarchy, dependencies, resource allocations, resource calendars, vacations, etc.

Along with the regular features of solid resource management, detailed issue tracking, project time and expense tracking, and powerful reporting capabilities, Celoxis also offers powerful collaboration capabilities. Collaborate with your clients by taking advantage of their free unlimited client accounts feature. At your discretion clients can view project progress, raise/handle issues, share files, and participate in on-line discussions.  And with the new version of Celoxis, you can take advantage of some new enhancements that current users have been asking for.

New Celoxis 5.0 features include:

Effort-based scheduling.  You can now enter the effort required to complete a task. Celoxis will automatically adjust duration when you assign more/less resources. Further, you can also specify whether a task is Fixed Work, Fixed Duration or Fixed Units.

Enhanced resource allocation screen with "What-If" analysis.  The resource allocation screen now shows the current load as well as the free time for every resource in task’s duration so that you can quickly identify those resources that can be allocated without causing conflicts.

Full time zone support.  Celoxis’ scheduling engine takes into account every resource’s time zone while scheduling tasks.

Cross project task dependencies.  You can now specify dependency between tasks of different projects. This is especially useful for individual project managers who are handling multiple projects at once or managing several related projects for the same customer.

Departments.  The software can now group users and projects into departments for easier management and security.

Create and update tasks via email.  Users can create tasks by sending an email to a specific email address. You can include the Project, Start, Finish and even the percent complete.

CSV import of projects, tasks, users and clients.  You can now import projects, tasks, users and clients via CSV.

Project Portfolio Management.  Manage your entire portfolio of projects and tie them together with Celoxis 5.0.

Mobile interface. A feature-rich mobile interface for the iPhone, Blackberry and Andriod phones.

Clickable charts.  The capability to create your own drill-down graphical charts.

If you’re interested, you can now test it out for yourself.  Celoxis offers a free 30-day trial that accommodates up to 10 users.  To take advantage of their free trial offer, visit the Celoxis website and sign-up here.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It?s the old what goes around comes around routine.
