Comindware Project: Project Planning, Execution and Collaboration All in One

2/3/2014

When it comes to project management software tools, its clear that the majority of them are designed to support project planning with limited resources to go beyond that functionality. However, in today’s fast-driven environment teams need a unified system where they can not only plan, but also execute and collaborate on multiple projects.

Comindware, a provider of process management software Comindware Tracker (that I have previously covered), is launching a new product - as stated - to transform traditional project management and enable social collaboration on the spot.

Let’s walk through the product highlights to see how Comindware Project achieves the mentioned mission – step by step:

Simplified Project Planning

While focusing on extending project management software capabilities in its product, Comindware also does simplify project planning itself. With Comindware Project there is no need to manually create a project plan – it is scheduled automatically once you assign tasks and set priorities. This is quite useful, especially when project managers have to handle multiple projects at once.

Speaking of planning, another useful feature provided by Comindware is the work breakdown structure (WBS) that is used like a canvas for planning big projects on an early stage. You can easily draft a visual project plan as you create and drag-and-drop tasks in the right hierarchy.

Actual status on projects, rather than project plans

Going beyond just planning, Comindware Project delivers real-time status on projects even if they don’t follow the initially created plan. Let’s say someone finishes a task earlier than planned, while others pass their individual deadlines. Usually, such unexpected events cause difficulties in further project execution. Here project managers can rely on the Predictive Gantt chart that automatically recalculates the entire project plan when needed.

Social collaboration in the context of work

With the rise of social networks, lots of software providers are now trying to incorporate social features into their products. Mostly, these attempts simply turn into distraction for the users. This is not the case for Comindware Project (built on Comindware Team Network) as it adds the context of work into social collaboration through highly organized project discussions, Activity streams and Rooms for topics across the projects. Basically, teams always stay connected and continuously collaborate on project tasks and activities – again, within the same system.

Other features worth mentioning include:

  • Resource Pools and Calendars to allocate time and human resources accordingly
  • Timesheets that are surprisingly easy to use
  • Extensive Company Directory with in-built Skill Management
  • Awards to motivate team members

Just as with Comindware Tracker, Comindware made its new product available in MS Outlook so teams can keep working in a familiar environment. Comindware Project also comes with native mobile apps for OS and Android devices.
