For those days when I don’t want to be a professional, I try to follow these four thoughts:
We all have those days, right? No matter how rigidly structured our day is, and no matter how productive that usually makes us, we all have those days where we want to do what we want to do. I don’t want to do a status report today. I don’t want to make changes to the project schedule today. I don’t want to have that client call today. I don’t want to do a standup today on my agile project. Leadership doesn’t feel fun today. Hey, I have those days as a parent (no, not every day), so it’s a given we are going to have them as professionals also, right?But what do we do? We can’t just whip out a beer and say, “To heck with it all!” At least that’s not a good move for our career. And that ad campaign won’t finish itself. Or that ad agency client of ours won’t get their support issue handled without us responding. So what do we do?
